“Furshet”, “Velyka Kishenya” & “Fozzy” Overprice?

2008-04-02 19:13:56

socmart-fotoAt once three the biggest trading networks have attracted attention of Antimonopoly committee of Ukraine. Committee suspect supermarkets in Kyiv of monopoly abuse on the market. The matter is about such network like “Furshet”, “Velyka kyshenya" and “Fozzy”. “Silpo”, “Fora”, “Dnipryanka” and “Bumi Market” are included into the networks mentioned above.

The case has been opened in accordance with rise of prices for foodstuffs, press-service of Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine. Particularly, according to preliminary investigation, these three networks take more than 50 percents of chain market, i.e. formed the so-called collective monopoly.

According to information of Antimonopoly Committee, the companies mentioned above were rendering consultation, marketing and other chargeable services that cost a lot”.

Meat raised in price by 10-12 percents, chicken-meat and pork raised by UAH 3-5, beef raised by UAH 7-10 within a previous month. Unintelligible situation has arisen with prices for milk. It remained the same in “Silpo”. As for “Furshet”, prices for milk raised by more than one hryvnia. Prices for sunflower-seed oil remained the same. Fruits raised in price a little- by UAH 0,2-0,5. Bananas cost by UAH 4 less in one supermarket than in two others.

On the one hand, prices differ very much and it does not resemble collusion of supermarkets. On the other hand, it is not completely clear why some foodstuffs raised in price. However, people are to expect for results of investigation held by Antimonopoly Committee.

No case has been opened on this fact, chairman of supervisory committee of “Furshet” trading network Igor Bolenko reported. “Antimonopoly Committee has only started investigation. Officials had already checked it, but at that time producers became guilty. I think his time our network will be again recognized not guilty. And our shops had never agreed on prices!” he declared.

In opinion of “Velyka kyshenya” network commercial manager Alexander Pryadukhin, “Velyka kyshenya” network works with all goods’ suppliers only basing on principles of win-win cooperation. Besides, all goods are being sold with similar and transparent trading margins, says Alexander Pryadukhin.

In his turn chief of Main directorate of price policy at Kyiv city state administration Vasily Yastrubinsky declared suspicions of Antimonopoly Committee are completely well-founded. Foodstuffs are being sold following prices that do not correspond to it in supermarkets. Trading networks take, for example, 10 percents for placement of commodity in more profitable place. That are the secret causes of prices rising”, told Vasily Yastrubinsky.
